![]() In many cases your research may have given you the name of one of your ancestors, and you need to confirm a husband or wife's name. Some of the most valuable documents that may be located in the land registry records are copies of your ancestor's wills - tens of thousands of these wills were deposited in the Upper Canada/Ontario deed books and are largely undocumented in any sort of indexes. These instruments will give all legal details of the transaction. Individual 'instruments' may be available/ordered from the index for an individual property, ie instrument #5640 above, the will of John Cunningham registered 1863. LAND REGISTRY records include an index/dates of transactions such as mortgages, sales, bankruptcies, liens, land transfers, quit claims and wills. LAND REGISTRY records document the ownership of a property after it was granted or sold by the Crown, or in some cases land companies, to an individual.
